Practical Tips: Resolving the Discrepancy between USPS Package Showing Delivered and Customer Claimi

The current situation of parcel delivery overseas:

It is well known that the express service networks in many foreign countries are far from as "well-established" and "developed" as in China, and can even be described as "outdated." Overseas delivery personnel typically drive trucks loaded with packages for delivery, and they rarely contact recipients by phone during the delivery process.

When USPS delivers, they may ring your doorbell, and if someone is available to sign, the process is completed. If no one is available to sign, they may take the package back. Sometimes, a card may be left behind, while in other cases, no notification is given, with the logistics information indicating "delivery failure/arrived, awaiting pickup."

For services like DHL-FedEx-UPS, there might be 2-3 delivery attempts. EMS international express delivery depends on the local post office; for instance, in Australia, there is only one delivery attempt. In cases of delivery failure in countries like the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, etc., recipients can contact the local post office to schedule a redelivery. If redelivery is not possible, recipients may have to pick up the package at the postal office.

Sometimes, though not common, you may find on the USPS package tracking page that your package is marked as "delivered," but you have not received it. This could be due to USPS erroneously marking packages as "delivered" when they recycle old tracking numbers every six months.

Given that USPS handles over 420 million packages daily, issues are inevitable. Sometimes, you may wonder why your package delivery is delayed. Occasionally, though not frequently, you may find on the USPS package tracking page that your package is marked as "delivered," but you have not received it.

Tips:

Personal Recommendations:

1. After a delivery failure, notify the recipient to contact the delivery service provider as soon as possible. For USPS, reference the phone number 1-800-275-8777. International couriers may treat packages as abandoned or even return them due to failure to contact the recipient, customs issues, or delivery failure.

2. Why does the logistics information show "delivered," but the buyer has not received the package?

   A. For private residences (individual houses), if the recipient's address has a no-sign agreement with DHL, FedEx, or other courier services, local delivery may occur without a recipient signature. The delivery location could be diverse, including at the door, in the yard, in the mailbox, on a shoe rack, behind the door, or in other concealed locations. It might even be delivered to a neighbor or the wrong address.

If it's a public address, such as a school, check with the receiving department (school may have multiple receiving departments) or the dormitory manager.

For companies, check with the front desk, colleagues, or the receiving department.

In shared apartments, check with the receiving department, dormitory entrance, roommates, or neighbors.

3. Still can't find it, what should I do? Perhaps the post office has signed on behalf of the recipient (common for UK post offices).

If you've searched everywhere and asked neighbors but still can't find the package:

   A. Contact the local delivery company, report the tracking number, and inquire about the package while also reaching out to our company's customer service for investigation.

   B. Use surveillance cameras if available to check for any clues related to the package. USPS delivery usually does not include photographic evidence of delivery.

4. What we can do to avoid:

   A. Once the package shows as arrived overseas, regularly check the logistics information to stay informed of the latest package status. Visit the tracking website [WWW.USPS.COM](WWW.USPS.COM).

   B. Ensure the recipient's address is detailed, down to the door number. The more details, the better. Avoid incomplete addresses. The recipient's name should ideally match the name on their identification, and refrain from using nicknames or providing false names. Check the recipient address during the order placement; if it looks incorrect, verify it with the recipient.

   C. If the information shows "delivered," and after checking with roommates, the receiving department, and neighbors, you still can't find it, promptly contact the nearby local post office for assistance in the investigation.
